31 Days to a New you: Day 12: Hunger is not an emergency!
Filed in archive 31 Days to a New You on December 12, 2007
One of our bodies functions is to tells us whenever it is hungry, a great way for us to know when our body needs energy again. Only that sometimes we react to these hunger feelings a little too early and without our body actually needing food.
What we forget is that hunger is not an emergency. We won't collapse if we wait a little longer to eat, we don't have to stuff ourselves with food every time we get bored.
Recognize that? It is so easy to feel "I need to eat now" when we get the slightest hunger feeling and we start thinking about food and don't know how to get it as quickly as possible. This is a habit that we need to break. We need to learn how to wait and not still our hunger the minute it starts saying that it needs food. By listening too often to this little voice we eat more than we need to and the results will be that we have more energy than we need resulting in weight gain.
Next time you feel you are hungry, think about when you last ate and if it is really hunger or just boredom eating. Remember, hunger is not an emergency and if you fill up your body with the right food it will stay full for longer and you will avoid hunger attacks. By eating the right food and eating it at certain times throughout the day you will get the energy needed and your body will be happy.
If you feel that The Hunger is too much for you to say no to then try to go for something light like fruit or vegetables until it is time for you to eat again.
