31 Days to a New you: Day 18: Give up your bad habits and improve your health
Filed in archive 31 Days to a New You by Linda Hernestal da Silva on December 18, 2007

Think about what your bad habits are; it can be eating too much cake, having that extra chocolate or lazing around too much. Imagine if you gave up 2-4 of your worse habits, how would that change your life? One piece of chocolate cake containing 100-250 calories per day is 365000-91250 calories per year! Now imagine if you gave that up or at least reduced it to once a week. You would enjoy it so much more and you would also save yourself more than 20000 calories per year. Or it could be even more depending on what cake you prefer.
Everyone has got bad habits that affect our lifestyle and choices but we do have a choice to stick to them or throw them out the window for a better life. If you know that you need more exercise then take away the bad habit of lazing around and start moving a little more. No one is asking you to run a marathon, only to start moving a little more.
Instead pf promising yourself things you know you won't be able to keep, promise yourself that you will give up 2 bad habits that you have and do everything you can do realize that promise.
How to break the habit?
List your habits, even those you think aren't so bad. They might just turn out to be not as good as you thought they were. Think through how you would benefit from breaking the habit. Search for new healthy ways to change your habits. And most important of all: remember that you can change. Our habits makes us what we are, are you happy with who you are?
