Ever since you are a small child you hear how important it is that you drink your milk so that you get big and strong. Which means grow and get strong bones.
You drink your milk because your mother tells you but you might not like it very much. There are those who can't stand drinking milk because they simply don't like it. Or there are those who are vegetarians, vegans and those with intolerance, they can't drink milk.
So how do they get strong bones then?
It's not necessary to drink milk if you make sure that you eat other calcium rich food. There are other alternatives like oat milk, soy milk and so on.
How much you need depends on you age, sex, and other factors like if you are in your menopause, if you are pregnant , a vegan etc.
Osteoporosis, this is one of the reasons you want to make sure you are getting enough calcium.
Foods rich in calcium are; milk, cheese, tofu, fish, figs, nuts among many others.
by doing a simple test you can check if you get enough calcium.
Cookies and milk is delicious but only once in a while.

In Spain where I live, people, including children never have milk to the food, wich is common in my counry of origin (Sweden). But - often the children have a youghurt as a dessert, and I suppose that gives some calcium as well.

I'm a milk fan! No wonder, my father used to be a milk farmer. I don't drink milk very much these days, but sometimes I it just comes over me and I drink a lot of it. My two children are unusual to live in France - they both like milk. But one prefers it cold to the meal, and the other one drinks hot chocolate or just warm milk. I think that is nice, because I believe in the benefits of milk!

My kids were both allergic to milk protein up to age 4, so we've tried lots of "alternative milks", like rice milk (yummy!), oat milk (good for cooking and baking), sesame milk (i really like that one)... You don't have to drink milk to get strong bones, but if you don´t you probably need to eat calcium pills.
