Does your kid exercise enough?
Filed in archive Exercises For Everyone on April 9, 2007
Sometimes we think that kids are so energetic that they don't need to exercise.
Well that might be true but there are also kids that don't move much at all. Maybe the family isn't very active and therefore the kids gets a bit "lazy" as well.
If you are raised in a family that is very active you get used to an active lifestyle. It's rare that people who are used to being active likes to be still.
No parent wants their child to become obese, but there is no need to become stressed and obsessed about exercising. If you push your child all the time and say that he/she should eat more vegetables, worry about fat etc you might get the opposite reaction. A parent that worries too much and lets the child become aware of fat etc at an early age might result in the child having problems with his/hers body image etc later on.
What you want to do is to introduce exercising as a fun thing so that it is associated with joy instead.
There are different ways you can activate your kid. If he/she likes to dance why not invest in a "dance mat"? If animals are preferred, why not start riding? The options are as always endless.
Ask your child what he/she likes to do and encourage as much as you can as long as it's not violent and is beneficial for his/hers health. Try to participate whenever you can.
Do you think that kids exercise enough these days? How about your kids? Maybe you even have some good activity tips to share?
