Instead of a pedometer - the Nike sports kit
Filed in archive Fitness Gadgets & Fun by Linda Hernestal da Silva on September 2, 2007

Nike has created a sports kit that will not only tell you how far you have walked; you can even find out how many calories you have burnt.
To track your workout you need a chip, also called accelerometer, and an iPod. You insert the chip into your shoe and connect it with your iPod. Through the iPod you will get all the information about your exercise that you need to keep you going and hopefully motivate you. You can then download it to your own computer to keep track of your running.
The chip comes embedded in some nike shoes
but if you want to stick to your old shoes there are other ways to use the chip with your normal running shoes. Over at Podophile - the iPod lover, you can find several smart ways of using the without buying the sneakers. I particularly liked the idea of the little Pouch-A-Go-Go. The chip has it´s pros and cons, and it has been discussed about how the tracking system affects your personal security, if you can be tracked by using the chip.
But over all it seems as this is a popular and much appreciated gadget among runners and I like the idea.
Have you tried the Nike sports kit?
