Water aerobics

If you are suffering from knee problems or are hurt in any other way and are a bit disappointed that you won't be able to work out as you usually do then Water aerobics might be something for you.
In water aerobic you use your whole body doing movements usually to music but you can also do it without depending on how intense you want the work out to be. You can walk or jog in the water as well.
No matter if you are a beginner or an elite athlete you will benefit from water aerobics.
As water makes you lighter it could be an excellent choice of exercise if you have arthritis or if you are pregnant.
I tried it out a few times and enjoyed it very much. During pregnancy it is usual to have back pain and floating in the water for example will relive that.
Your body temperature will also benefit and you won't fell that you get sweaty and stop exercising because of this. This is a good option instead of doing normal aerobics and getting hot during summer.
If you are having problems keeping up with the terms used in water aerobics then have a look at this glossary.
Want to know how many calories you burned during your water aerobic class?
During a 45minute class you can burn 300 calories or more so it's an excellent choice as well if you are looking to lose weight.
There are different accessories and music especially created for water aerobic or Aqua aerobic as it's also called.
After a water aerobic class you usually come out very calm but still full of energy. A great stress reliever. You will have a good thorough workout without sweating too much.
Ask at your nearest gym or swimming center and try out a class.
Who knows you might even like it so much that you want to become an instructor?

Some years ago, while visiting a spa, friends asked if I'd join them in a water aerobic class. The first thing I thought was "wimp city", but they are my friends and they promised I'd like the class. You know the bit: "The teacher is a hoot. You'll be surprised." OK, I went, and I have to tell you the class was just plain great. It was challenging as we used weights and actually ran, jogged and stepped in the water. We worked so hard that we were sweating in the water -- a new sensation for those of us who had only done laps of the crawl in the past.
