I am terrible at remembering directions. Give me a map and I'll remember it more or less in my head but don´t rely on me to get where you want to get to. Even though I am lousy at directions I do usually find my way but it could have been easier sometimes.
If you want to keep track of how far you are cycling or walking you can plan your own route using RouteSlip.com. At Route Slip you simply create your own map and print it. It is a free service so anyone can use it. Route Slip is originally made to log bike routes but it is as good for walking and running as it is for cycling.
By logging your walks you can easily renew your routes and extend your walks as you will see what distance you have walked. And you won´t have to worry about getting lost.
Using a map is also a great way to make sure you vary your walks and don´t get stuck in the same routine all the time.
