Physical Fitness For Fire Fighters For Better Health And Performance

Most of the US fire fighting departments has not given much importance to physical fitness. However, the Cumberland Fire Department is an exception to the above.
The fire department of the city, has of late, launched, a physical fitness schedule, for its fire fighters, wherein the department will provide, 1hour of physical fitness training, per shift.
Recently, a fitness camp was organized, at the Western Maryland Regional Training Center, at Cresaptown, wherein 8 freshers, from the city fire Department, were given an hour of fitness training, for two weeks.
According to Chief Donnie Dunn, this kind of fitness program was in place10 years ago. The same was scuttled because of budgetary constraints.
Fire fighting requires rigorous toiling; extinguishing fire, crawling through buildings on fire, rescuing people trapped under debris, all this wearing an equipment weighing around 50 pounds.
Physical fitness ensures, that health indicators like weight, blood pressure and cholesterol are norma,l as well as reduces stress and tension and betters performance. As such annual fitness programs are being considered with separate budgetary allotments.
